How does it work?
Once you get your hands on the sphero BB-8 droid, begin by plugging in the charging base. Sphero designed an application that connects your smartphone device to your droid. There are many functionalities for the BB-8.
After charging it, all you have to do is make sure Bluetooth is activated on your mobile device, launch the app, and that the tiny droid is nearby. The connection between BB-8 and your mobile device happens automatically after just a few seconds, with no need to fiddle with pairing settings.
Starting with the drive mode.
You can take control of your BB-8 with your smartphone. You have to set the orientation for BB-8 which tell BB-8 which direction forward is and which backward with respect to you. once you have configured the setting, BB-8 is free to go. You can adjust the speed of your droid according to the terrain for example for wooden surfaces you can lower its speed whereas for carpets BB-8 works best with full speed. When you are using a drive command you can activate the voice command for BB-8. The app allows us to turn on the voice recognition and after completing a tutorial you can get BB-8’s attention by simply uttering “okay BB-8”.
BB-8 also likes to share its mood and show off its personality to you. there is a function in the app which after you tap it will show few different expressions it can perform like Saying no, no, no when it’s sad and yes, yes, yes when it is happy.
The holographic messaging
The holographic messaging feature makes your BB-8 a complete and quality droid. First, we have to record our message. By using the microphone in the camera and taping the video icon on the app. It allows up to twelve seconds messages to recorded which is converted into a holographic message which will be projected on the app.
You can send your BB-8 droid to explore on its own using the advanced patrol mode. BB-8 will go out on its own while you can keep a check on its progress. It can detect an obstacle which it encounters and try to find its way through it.
BB-8’s body is a smooth plastic ball, about three inches in diameter, that’s wrapped in detailed graphics that appear to be very durable. On the inside, the internal self-righting mechanism that allows the Sphero ball to propel itself works similar to how someone inside one of those giant inflatable spheres can climb the walls to get it rolling.
It is highly interactive and consuming, guaranteed to cheer you up every single time. May the force be with you as you play around with the Star Wars BB-8 droid.
